This is a notebook and guide for learners of English as a second or overseas language, all over the earth. Most of the writings here are in Basic English, first designed by C. K. Ogden, using 850 necessary words and a number of international words only.

Cycle
This English word is from an
old Greek word for "ring" or "circle."

"Cycle," in addition,
has been used for
something round, and
something which goes round,
like a wheel.

Ms. Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea books are
stories loosely joined together,
like a ring.
So they go by the name of
the Earthsea Cycle.

Monologue
I said, in my note on one-rail train, that "mono" is from a Greek word for "one."

There are other words from Greek used, with a bit of changes, in English. One example is "logue." It is from "logos" for word, talk or language.

So if you are in need of a high-level word for "talk given by one person," you may have "monologue."

Telephone in Motion
 "Automobile,"
in C. K. Ogden's word list,
is an international word.
It is generally used for an
engine-powered,
self-moving, carriage.

"Auto," in fact,
is "self," and
"mobile" is
about things with "motion."

The word "carriage,"
is now made short as
"car."
