My Twitter Notes from Yesterday
  • 08:45  Good morning. It's the second workday in the middle of the Golden Week in Japan. The sky is gray. It's warm but the weather is not so good.
  • 18:24  I've made a start of reading the book named 'V.' by Thomas Pyncheon. It might be good, however, for winter reading.
  • 20:59  The name, the title, of Pynchon's book I'm reading now is 'V.' with a dot.

Dear Ryota-san,
An American friend recomended `The Crying of Lot49`six
years ago so I read it in Japanese edition.
But regrettably,it remained only strange impression.
On the other hand, some critics predict he will win a
Nobel Prize in literature.
Why is he so popular ?
Please give me a clue.

I have little knowledge of Thomas Pynchon.
His 'V.,' however, seems to be good for winter reading.
So I'll take time reading it in December and January.
It'll be my starting point.

I went through V. and I'm halfway through Gravity's Rainbow.

A keyword to the books by Thomas Pynchon,
it seems to me, is DEFAMILIARIZATION.
