Do you have a memory of an old bedtime story
about a boy who gives a kiss to a girl, who has been dead or sleeping for years? The kiss makes her conscious and living again. If a story like that takes place in the 1980's, it will be better to be with a taste of science. The old person with the strange power will be an expert of science. But what sort of science? An attempt to make a dead person living again is like the work of Dr. Frankenstein. 2006.05.24 Wednesday
River's Edge
What will you do if you get the news that
you may see a dead person, on the earth, out of your town, but not far away? Go and see it, like the boys in Stand by Me? This time, however, the dead girl is your school-friend, put to death by [her] boyfriend. Other school-friends are going there with HIM. Are you going with them? 2006.05.22 Monday
British Hills Store
This house made of stones is a store of goods like books, paper-weights, pictures, postcards, sweets and so on. 2006.05.16 Tuesday
The Bird Man of Alcatraz
What would you do if you were to be a prisoner with no chance to be free? Would you do nothing, with no hope? Or would you do something highly valued? There was a man in prison who became internationally noted by taking care of small birds and learning about them. The true story of the man was made into a book, and then a black-and-white motion picture: The Bird Man of Alcatraz. 2006.05.12 Friday
The Pub
"Pub" is a short form of "public house." It is a place for talks and drinks. British Hills have their pub among other houses. Do you see its signboard in this picture? The name of this public house is "Falstaff." It is to be sounded like "fall-staff." It was named after Sir John Falstaff, the very fat man of humor in plays by Shakespeare. 2006.05.05 Friday
Fukushima
If you take the quickest train going north from the JR Koriyama Station, you will see that the train before long goes into a dark hole on the side of a mountain. The train may go out on the earth after a while but it will quickly go underearth into another hole and it will go on in the dark. After ten minutes of mostly underearth journey you will come out into a flat place among mountains. That is our town Fukushima. There is a mountain in the middle of the town. You may see it in the picture. The name of the mountain is Shinobuyama. For us it is a great public garden. 2006.05.02 Tuesday
The Chaucer House
Every house at British Hills has a name. This house is named "Chaucer." Other houses have names like "Newton," "Wren," "Drake" and so on. They are the names of Englishmen noted in the history. |
