writing small letters online
users of the computer system named "unix"
had love of writing in all-smalls. in addition to that, unix was good at networking. so they made new connections by joining one network to another. what they made became stems of a looser and greater network. in the 1990's, the greater net went round the earth. now this international network goes by the name of the internet. that is why we see in network language a number of uses in all-smalls. 2006.07.13 Thursday
writing in small letters
the shorter the distance you go,
the quicker you come to the end. so some writers put facts and thoughts all in small letters when they make quick notes. it is like a shorthand. the invention of the typewriter, the writing machine with keyboards, made more writers using small letters only, because change from small to great letters and changing back to small took more time on the machine. there was an american writer who made free verses using only small letters. he became noted because he made use of small letters even for the head letters of his name. all the time he put his name like this: e. e. cummings. 2006.07.04 Tuesday
Da Vinci Is Not His Family Name
Leonardo da Vinci,
the great man of arts and sciences, had his birth in a small Italian town. The name of the town was Vinci. He became a noted man when he was living in Florence. Because he was from Vinci, he went by the name of Leonardo da Vinci. "Da" between "Leonardo" and "Vinci," if you put it into English, is "of " or "from." And he had no family name, like a great number of men those days did not. |
